Back when I was a kid and violence on TV was still acceptable, we had a cartoon called ‘Tom and Jerry’. Tom, the cat, spent every episode attempting to eat Jerry, a mouse, only to be thwarted every single time. Funnily enough, we had pet cats when I was growing up and I had plenty of opportunity to witness what would have happened had Tom caught Jerry. But this never crossed my mind when watching the cartoon.
Anyway, many of the episodes centred around Tom attempting to trick Jerry into walking into some kind of trap baited with a nice hunk of Swiss cheese. But, in actual fact, real-life mice don't really like cheese that much. They would rather have a nice bar of chocolate.
To complicate things further, many cats adore cheese. Perhaps
it is because cats, being carnivorous animals, like high protein,
high fat foods. Here’s another useless fact – cats
have no sweet taste buds. None of this answers the original question.
